SugaringSugaring

Sugaring is an ancient art of hair removal using a soft warm paste made from pure sugar and other natural ingredients. This is a technique that has been handed down by middle-eastern women through the centuries, and they still practice this method of hair removal today.

More Information About Sugaring

The earliest references to the treatment can be found in ancient Egyptian writings called Hieroglyphics, which depict how women who served the Pharaohs needed to be hairless, clean and smooth skinned.

For thousands of years, this natural method of hair removal has been used. It works by removing the entire hair as well as the bulb and leaving the skin soft, healthy and smooth for 4-6 weeks depending on the hair type.

Because sugar paste sticks to the hair and not the skin, the hairs are pulled cleanly from the roots without bruising the surrounding area. The treatment’ is comfortable and one of the least painful ways of removing unwanted face and body hair, The gentle removal slows down hair growth and re-growth is finer, sparser and lighter in colour. Over a period of time, and with regular treatments this results in a gradual diminishment of hair.

Sugaring is particularly suitable for people with sensitive skin types, both young and older clients can be treated safely. People who suffer from varicose veins or diabetes can be treated, because sugaring paste is applied warm and then removed gently. Dry and dead skin cells are removed by the process, leaving the skin soft and smooth, which can improve dry skin conditions such as psoriasis and eczema. This is because, the warm sugar paste is gently applied onto cleansed, powdered skin. The paste clings to the hair so that when the paste is removed with a gentle flicking motion, the hair bulb is also removed. The paste remains soft and pliable, so hair removed completely and safely from below the skin.

FAQ

How long does hair have to be to be removed?
Short hair can be successfully treated, even hair which has appeared after a few days of shaving. After a sugaring treatment the new hair can be removed with as little as 1/8th inch of growth. Your specialist will suggest the best timing appropriate for you and your hair type and body part.

Is sugaring messy?
The sugar paste is 100% water soluble, and is easily removed from any surface and is therefore far less messy than other methods currently in use today.

Is there anything I need to do before or after the treatment?
For your comfort and ease of treatment, we recommend that you do not sunbathe or use a sun bed for 4 to 6 hours prior to first or subsequent sugaring treatments. You should not put any moisturizers on the skin 24 hours before treatment. Also, some women may find their skin is a little extra-sensitive when they are pre-menstrual.

After treatment your skin will feel silky smooth and moisturized. Your skin will be a little sensitive to touch. We recommend you avoid fragranced soaps, deodorants and lotions for 4 to 6 hours after treatment. No chemically treated pools, hot tubs or excessive perspiration.

Is sugaring effective for Men and Women?
Yes sugaring is as effective for both men and women.
